Join us for a very special and intimate dinner with Château Haut-Bailly’s General Manager Veronique Sanders and a vertical of Châeau Haut-Bailly back to 1918.

In the early 20th century Château Haut Bailly, on fine gravelly terroir in Pessac-Léognan, was ranked at the very top in contemporary quality. Merchant Henry Guillier listed Haut-Bailly alongside Lafite, Mouton, Latour, Margaux, Haut-Brion, Ausone and Yquem. The wines of Château Haut-Bailly were suitably expensive to boot!

When I think of 20th century Château Haut Bailly I think primarily of elegance, fragrance, and harmony with fine food. These have always been sophisticated wines. Since 1998, when American financier Bob Wilmers acquired the property, new capital has been brought in. All the usual associated improvements have taken place – renewal of the vineyard, a new winery, stricter selection and the development of a second wine. In my view, this has been achieved without discarding Haut-Bailly’s original charm and subtlety. Tasting Haut Bailly I see respect for the terroir, not egotism.
