Romanée St. Vivant is one of the Côte de Nuit’s finest grand cru vineyards. Nestled in the heart of Vosne-Romanée, with La Grand Rue to its south, Les Suchots to its north, and La Romanée-Conti and Richebourg to its west, it epitomizes the Vosne ideal of enthralling aromatics, laciness, delicacy, yet also strength, length and longevity.

It’s qualities have been long known. It was the property of the Abbey of Saint Vivant from the 9th century, but was already prized by then.

When Richard Olney asked Lalou Bize-Leroy and Henri de Villaine (Aubert de Villaine’s father) what the distinct quality of Romanée-St-Vivant was, they replied poetically:
“Each year Romanée-Saint-Vivant casts a spell of awe before the miracle of its delicacy and its femininity, its irresistible determination to seduce, before which one is helpless. Its perfumes are bewitching; one cannot help loving it and, only then, does one realize that behind this grace resides a strength in such perfect balance that, at first, it was imperceptible.”

This evening, to really understand this vineyard’s qualities and expressions, we have assembled a fine selection of fourteen bottles covering ten vintages, nine producers, and four decades, including the chance to see the same producer in different vintages, and the same vintage from different producers! As always, we take our time to select bottles with top provenance.
