Wine Dinner: Burgundies from the cellar of Don Stott

Date: 16th December 2015
Time: 7:00 PM
Venue: Chief Executive Suite III, Grand Hyatt, 1 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong

I first met Don Stott in Beaune in 2005. He generously hosted annual wine dinners at L’Hotel – great food, and with something of a paulee style BYOB free-flowing casual style. He had been collecting Burgundy for decades by this stage, and around midnight, when numbers had dwindled a bit, he opened a magnum of 1952 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue Musigny. Seeing a magnum format was almost as mesmerising as the pristine quality of the wine within it. And while I was getting over the shock of so rare a bottle, he casually mentioned that he had seven more in his one of his many cellars!

He built an extraordinary collection during a period where only a few connoisseurs had their eye on Burgundy rather than Bordeaux, and perhaps in an echo of his success in the finance industry – let go of so many treasures this year at Sotheby’s during a high in that region’s popularity.

This evening we shall enjoy a selection of 14 wines we acquired at that Sotheby’s sale, all from Don Stott’s cellar. They had been impeccably selected by Don in the first instance, and properly professionally stored since then. The bottles reflect his broad taste in styles and appellations, but have in common that they represent the very best of Burgundy. So, “Sante Don! Thank you for letting so many Burgundy lovers like us have the chance to raid your cellar!”.

Join us for this very special single bottle, single table dinner. When you look at the list of wines you will see what we mean about his great taste. Many of these would be extremely difficult to replace, especially with this assured provenance.
