English-bottled by André Simon Selections, London W1
Deep garnet, amber rim – semi-opaque still; sweet nose, lovely and ripe and quite fruity still; amazingly fresh on the attack, generous, a little monolithic, but delicious, quite tannic still on the long finish. A wonderful wine. Well worth looking out for (and long live the cheaper market for the often superior English-bottlings!) [NB – according to Michael Broadbent, Montrose picked entirely before the incessant rains that ruined things in the Médoc for many châteaux].
Tasted at The Fine Wine Experience vertical tasting of Château Montrose, Tuesday 28th September 2004.
