Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1980

Region: Australia
Type: Red
Rating: 89
Guide Price: 130.00

Fruit from Kalimna, Clare Valley, Magill, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra. 96% Shriaz / 4% Cabernet aged 18 months in new American oak hogsheads.

Deep cherry colour, youthful and opaque with a ruby rim; not overt on the nose – cool eucalypt fruit, fairly closed; ripe, leathery flavours, cool vintage characyer, some nutty flavours, and quite tannic on the finish – a touch coarse and drying out a little. A good food drink – an atypical Grange. Drink up.
