Fruit primarily from Penfold’s Kalimna vineyard, plus Barossa Valley, Padthaway and Magill Estate. 97% shiraz, 3% Cabernet matured 18 months in new American oak.
Opaque – black purple with a bright purple rim – very concentrated colour which stains the glass with thick stained tears; lifted, super-ripe sweet fruit, liqueur-like; very very concentrated fruit on the palate, thick-textured, creamy, big and burly, velvety smooth. This is enormously proportioned wine. An acquired taste. Unready.
