Deep ruby, clear, with developed rim; beautiful hedonistic aroma – really vibrant & sweet. Gorgeous cherry, mocha heady aromas, but with mineral complexity too; so supple on the palate, a ripe rich style, yet with elegance and length, with a touch of chocolate on the finish. Still tannic and only just starting its drinking window, and with some way to go.
The heat came earlier rather than later in the vintage (the other way around to 1989), commented Christian Moueix at our tasting, adding that the wine’s plum character made this a “slightly Californian vintage”.
