Deeper than the 1989, bright gold; some volatile acidity on the nose, rich apple and lanolin; a rich, fruity chenin, very ripe - clearly from a hot vintage. Sits a little heavy in the palate, but still very good.
Our group was divided between the 1990 and the 1989 of this wine. I thought they had equal merit and, ideally, I would enjoy most a theoretical blend of the two - the 1989 more classic, lean, the 1990 more rich, but lacking the backbone.
