2ème Cru Classé, St Julien
Still quite ruby, tough clear and with some lightening at the rim; developed, classic cedar nose with very ripe fruit aromas and a touch of tar indicating a very warm vintage; moderate intensity on the palate (nothing approaching the '82 or '86), mature and ready, ripe fruit flavours in the mid-palate, but then a touch of astringent bitterness (physiologically unripe fruit?) on the finish, which is also a little short. A good wine, but not a great Las Cases.
