2ème Cru Classé, St.-Estephe
This is the Ch Montrose for the long haul if you have the patience. It is ‘93/100’ to drink now if you decant it well in advance and let it sit in your glass for a while, but has the structure to be, say, 95/100 with another 5 to 10 years in the cellar.
Opaque ruby with garnet rim; complex aromas – fruity with leather, cedar, dried herbs, tapenade, capsicum and farmyard notes; lovely thick-textured fruit on the palate followed immediately by quite piquant acidity, good concentration and length, with a firm, tannin-laden finish that is ripe. The acidity carries the flavours to a long finish.
Tasted 23rd March 2004.
