2ème Cru Classé, St.-Estephe
Deep ruby with a fairly developed tawny rim; moderately ripe aromas – some berry fruit, grass compost and with slightly green notes – yet still sound; mature flavours, nice fruit on the attack with just slightly green acidity and (just) under-ripe tannins (in abundance) on the finish. That said, a nice drink, moderately concentrated and with a plate of roast lamb it would be lovely. A notch down in ripeness and fineness than a typical ’88 style though. This wine has the concentration to hold in the cellar for a few more years, but is unlikely to improve.
Tasted 23rd March 2004.
