2ème Cru Classé, St.-Estephe
This is the relative bargain amonst the less-than-great vintages of Ch Montrose – if you can find it. The crop was small and the wines long since disappeared.
Moderately deep garnet, lightening toward the rim; good positive nose, sweaty, leathery fruit and a mineral character (no greenness at all); quite soft, lowish concentration but a very good clarety flavour – juicy. Too simple for a grand vin yet a very good wine from a washed out vintage. Straightforward, low concentration, yet very pleasant in its way. Drink up.
