2ème Cru Classé, St.-Estèphe.
This was a relative disappointment for me as I am a fan of the vintage.
Quite a mature colour (would guess much older if served blind) – transparent, a touch of garnet at the core, turning brick with a tawny brown rim; biscuity and open with the sweetness of bottle age, lovely fruit and quite earthy; soft, ripe pillowy fruit, mature with ripe, firm acidity and a soft easy finish with very little tannin. This wine has lovely flavours but is lacking vigour, has low concentration and is heading into decline already. Drink now – it’s enjoyable, but don’t keep too long.
