1er Cru Classé, Pessac-Léognan
Deep youthful ruby, right to the rim – almost a scarlet tint; new French oak on the nose, with a rich, heady scent of ripe fruits – cherry, plum, plus sweet herbs and a touch of roast meat; ripe, full, smooth and rich on the palate, with very fine tannin, good acidity – great power matched to great finesse. Roast fruit character on the finish. This is rich, yet very fine, and has a great future. (It is also an under-valued first growth in my view).
Tasted at our Château Haut-Brion Vertical Tasting, 27th April 2004.
