Amber orange – though both fresher and ‘thicker’ in appearance than the 1982, pale rim; toasty and ripe on the nose with notes of orange peel; fuller than the 1982 on the palate – positive tertiary flavours, some concentration of mature fruit. A spine of acidity keeping it together, though the flavours seemed a little ‘smudged’ and unfocused. A touch hot on the finish. Enjoyable enough, and pretty good for a 1976 (Anthony Hanson MW commented that it is one of the best 1976s he’s had).
Tasted at our de Vogüé Musigny and Bonnes Mares Vertical tasting, 25th May 2004.
