Deep ruby with a youthful core (though a more developed colour than the 1995); ripe aromas, earthy, but with an odd caramelised sugar note that didn’t seem right; ripe fruit and firm acidity, silky rich and long, but with a note of oxidation on the finish that just shouldn’t be there on a 1996. Poor cork in this bottle? (No TCA).
Tasted at our de Vogüé Musigny and Bonnes Mares Vertical tasting, 25th May 2004.
