1èr Cru Classé, Margaux
Deep velvet crimson; spicy, rich, lifted aromatics – violets, oak, cassis, a classic rich opulent Margaux nose; sweet on entry, fine and ripe, slightly edgy acidity toward the finish, but with good flesh and length. Classic. (This tasting confirmed my impression from the large 1999 horizontal conducted by the IMW last year, that Ch Margaux 1999 is one of the top wines of the vintage).
Tasted at our Château Margaux Vertical tasting, Tuesday 27th July 2004.
1er Cru Classé, Margaux
Youthful mid+ ruby purple – very fine appearance with noticeable tears; lovely sweet crushed forest berries aroma – quite perfumed, floral and with mineral notes; sweet, smooth entry, very rounded, supple, with plenty of ripe velvet tannin on the long finish. Power with elegance.
For me, the wine of the vintage. Tasted 6th November 1999 at the IMW tasting of 90 1999 Bordeaux reds.
Potential: (96-99).
