1èr Cru Classé, Margaux
Deep and denser colour than the 1996 with just a touch of development on the rim; sweeter fruit on the nose, very black curranty with violets, mineral and cherry notes; very fine on the palate, but very compact right now – noticeably more tannic than the 1996, and very rich. Locked down, this is a true vin de garde. Later this opened a little to reveal that wonderful pure expression of Margaux violets and fruit. Excellent wine.
