1èr Cru Classé, Margaux
Noticeably mature appearance, bricky with ruby core; sweet, biscuity, cedary aromas, a touch floral; sweet, soft, ripe entry, cedary developed fruit, mature. Initially worryingly flat and astringent, though with air it continued to improve, though not to the level expected. Bottle variation in this vintage, or perhaps a less than beneficial cork (though no TCA). Hmmmm…. Others were more convinced than I, and it was wine of the night for one taster in our group.
Tasted at our Château Margaux Vertical tasting, Tuesday 27th July 2004.
