2/8 wine in flight.
(maw-ler) for anyone, like me, who struggles with that very French word!
Above normal yield – 45hl/ha – a normal ‘classic’ year we were told.
My tasting note: Deep yellow gold, brilliant with a touch of green on the rim; slightly dirty nose, touch of VA, bruised apple and lanolin – vlassic old-fashioned Vouvray; medium-bodied, honeyed fruit, mature with wet wool character, lanolin and moderate acidity. Drying out a touch on the finish but still good. This just lacks a little concentration and length for what I would expect from a Huët moelleux.
Pinguet suggests serving this with cheese or grilled sweetbreads.
Tasted at Christie’s, London, Thursday 6th May 2004.
