3/8 wine in flight
30hl/ha – the wind dried the rot and concentrated both the sugars and acidity – this wine is from ‘selected’ fruit – not individual berries, but selected half or third of bunches. This wine was recorked in 2002 – topped up with the same 1961 wine.
My tasting note: Youthful gold with a green tint on the rim – more youthful than the 1970 and very bright; intriguing aroma – apple, floral with a touch of marzipan / almond – very fresh; fresh, youthful, balanced sweetness and acidity, yet not very complex on the palate. There is a slight bitterness on the finish which is not off-putting, moderate concentration and length. A lovely, yet surprisingly delicate wine.
Tasted at Christie’s, London, Thursday 6th May 2004.
