7/8 wine in flight
Pinguet – a ‘shrivelled grapes’ vintage.
My tasting note: Deep healthy gold, bright; lifted (with some noticeable but tolerable VA) aromatics carrying richness with a super-fresh edge – both citrus and herby: Wow! On the palate – this has some intensity and warmth, very ripe, yet with really fresh acidity and some refreshing ‘pithy’ bitterness on the finish. Rich, balanced, citrus and herby – this has all that is great about Vouvray going on.
Anthony Hanson MW – rich, concentrated and powerful. Some bitterness on the finish. David Elswood – marmalade with acidity keeping everything in place.
Tasted at Christie’s, London, Thursday 6th May 2004.
