Mature appearance but with some depth of colour and a fine mature rim (fresher appearance than the 1978); lovely on the palate initially – ripe with fine acidity, then a bit of oxidation on the finish which brings it up a bit short, and exposes the tannins too much on the finish, giving this a rustic quality. Clearly past its best - which must have been very good. Probably still excellent in large format bottles, etc…
Tasted at The Fine Wine Experience vertical tasting of Château Montrose, Tuesday 28th September 2004.
