Bordeaux négocient-bottled
I was astonished how deep the colour was. Astonishing! I thought it suffered a little too much VA. Some blew off on the nose to reveal an earthy style, though rich and ripe. On the palate, rich, ripe, and with some VA spike that turned some of the wine's richness to a curious old balsamico note. Intriguing, but not up to standard in my view.
A bottle I took to a dinner party, 2nd September 2004, from the same case as the bottle below:
Ruby amber, slightly cloudy; raisined ripe fruit on the nose – figgy, some VA, showing its age; ripe, rich, yet also some prickly acidity and dried out on the finish. Showing both oxidation and VA, sadly.
Tasted at The Fine Wine Experience vertical tasting of Château Montrose, Tuesday 28th September 2004.
