Deep ruby core, opaque, fine ruby rim – much less developed than the ’90; sweet clean, classic nose with lovely mineral notes, still a little closed and unevolved – and in contrast to the ’90; ripe generous fruit, fine acidity, ripe tannin (not a hint of the green tannins on some ’89 Médocs), the tannins are abundant and close down the finish. This is completely unready, but shows classic style, proportion and enough concentration to eventually blossom. The sleeper of the tasting
Tasted at The Fine Wine Experience vertical tasting of Château Montrose, Tuesday 28th September 2004.
