Dense ruby core, mature rim; very sweet grenache-nose, candy / ice-cream notes, plus some dried herbs, very fresh; ripe on the palate - very grenache-like flavours, but only moderate concentration, low acidity and a slightly hot alcoholic finish.
I was in a minority in my lack of enthusiasm for this wine. It got 50% of the vote for best wine in the 5 Chateauneuf-du-Papes we tasted blind, tying the vote with the Chateau de Beaucastel. Tasted at our 1990 Rhône Valley Reds tasting, 2nd December 2003.
