Mid ruby colour showing some development on the rim. Sweet, almost biscuity nose – showing some oak – also some mineral and spice, but surprisingly restrained for what we expected of this usually fragrant Graves. Good mouthfeel – long, well-proportioned and balanced wine, supple fruit, with a touch of Graves tobacco on the finish, yet a little muted. One in our group suggested this bottle may have been suffering from a little TCA – cork-taint – at the threshold of perception. A possibility, and it would explain this wine’s less than expected performance.
Tasted at our '1985 Bordeaux Cru Classé' tasting, 21 October 2003.
