When Xavier Jean and his family, who had been making wines in St.-Emilion for centuries, had the chance to purchase a tiny less than 1 hectare plot on the finest terroir, they realized it deserved to be preserved as a singular expression, its own wine. CALICEM is the wine, and it debuted with the 2015 vintage. We were so impressed with it from barrel in 2016 that we immediately began working with Xavier, importing the wine exclusively to Hong Kong. Now, to mark CALICEM’s 10th anniversary, we are celebrating with a very special dinner featuring every vintage of CALICEM made, all from large format bottles.

CALICEM is a single plot of old vine Merlot, planted in 1961, and in a very prime spot on the Rivalon and Mazerat slope surrounded by Angelus, Le Dome, and Canon. Despite its tiny size, CALICEM has its own dedicated winery next to the plot. Fermentation of the de-stemmed fruit takes place inside 600-litre barrels, a labour-intensive approach, but one that enhances the wine’s sumptuous, gently-creamy texture. CALICEM is a wine of density, balance, personality, and also rarity (only 2000 – 3000 bottles are made each year).
