Louis Essa and his father Patrick work 8 hectares of prime vineyards, based in Meursault. The long family line at this domaine stretches back via Louis mother Catherine, daughter of Michel Buisson. Vineyards are farmed organically, with horse ploughing, the aim is for low yields, with strict sorting before winemaking in the traditional way. The Essas are looking for the full expression and complexity of ripeness in the whites, which are full, voluptuous wines, yet the expression of each individual vineyards is clear – and this evening we will be able to compare several of these side by side. The reds see whole bunch fermentation, full and ripe, yet precise, aromatic, and long on the palate. The range includes a rare Chambertin which we will enjoy tonight.
