EVENTS

As we are now in the en primeur season for vintage 2020, my mind is cast back to the first Fine Wine Experience report I wrote in 2015 – for the 2014 vintage. A heterogenous vintage, I found wines that I thought were truly terrific. Today, I think the highlights here offer great value, and at approaching 7 years of age, it’s a very good time to check in on them to see the quality.

To make this extra fun, we will taste 6 wines blind, vote to rank them, and then reveal and discuss the wines. Some of these were favourites of mine during the primeurs, while others were rated highly by critics, but a bit lower by me.

2014 Château Montrose, St.-Estèphe, WA96, LW95-97*
2014 Château Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac, WA92+, LW92-94**
2014 Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan, WA95, LW90-92
2014 Château Figeac, St.-Émilion, WA94, not tasted by me
2014 Vieux Château Certan, Pomerol, WA96, LW96-98*
2014 Château L’Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol, WA95, LW91-93?
*one of my top 6 wines of the vintage
