YOYOYO~ Happy New Year. All the best in 2022! Earn more and drink more! The most important thing is to stay heathy. And I also want to say “I believe I can fly” in 2022.

For a kick start to 2022, we need something strong, something fun. This time I would like to introduce you to some tequila. Before the year end, one of our friends brought some tequila to the shop and did a small tasting which was really fun. We started tasting at 3pm, on until dinner time. Honestly, I knew nothing about tequila, I just knew that is for making margaritas, which is the cocktail I like the most. So I learned a lot from this tasting actually. They are quite like whisky which also has different lengths of aging. And some of them also give a taste of coffee and toffee, which is amazing.

The first tequila is “Blanco”, which is only aged for about 30 days, so it feels strong and also you can smell the alcohol. If you are looking for a blast, it will give it to you.

Then we go to “Joven Abocado”, quite similar to Blanco but the colour is different. It shows a bit of light gold due to the addition of some caramel and aged tequila.

And then we go to “Reposado”. This is the one that started to be interesting. Reposado also means “rested” and it is really depends on the time – it can be from 2 months to 1 year. And, the more it’s aged, the more oak flavour it takes. The colour changes to more gold as well. And you can see more complexity and silkiness in there.

The highest one is the “Anejo” which mean aged. It's usually aged more than 1 year and most are aged 4 to 5 years. Some of them can have the same complexity as aged whisky. They are very smooth and for this style, it is very good for drinking straight. Also the price will be higher (but still cheap when compared to whisky).

The Fine Wine Experience has some really top ones on the list right now and if you are willing to try something for a change from whisky at home, I highly recommend the ones below.

Don Julio 1942
This is an Anejo with limited production. It’s named after the founder Don Julio Gonzalez-Frausto Estrada. He first distilled tequila at the age of 17, which was in 1942. This tequila is aged at least 30 months in American white oak. I find it very smooth and complex with toffee and coffee and a hint of cinnamon. I found that it is very suitable to go with a cigar, a good replacement for aged whisky. Honestly, I think it drinks a lot better than some 25 year old whiskies, for my taste.

Clase Azul Reposado
This is a “lady killer”, that was our tasting group’s conclusion. It is 100% agave tequila and aged for a minimum of 8 months. It has a great fresh agave taste with a hint of coconut. There’s some sweetness there. It’s very good to drink with ice or just chill it. I like it a lot too and I would like to keep one in my freezer all the time for when I want that more fresh lively style.

Los 7 Angeles Extra Anejo Cristalino
This has a very active label with an LED light at the bottom. Party time needs this one and it needs a party as well. It’s 100% blue agave and aged in American oak for over sixty months. It’s carefully filtered to clarify it. Rich and pure, it’s also strong as well. It’s very good to go on the rocks. Again. If you're having a party. This is how you kill it!

For sure we tasted some others but these three are the best! Trust me. You don’t want to miss them, and let’s get a fill and kick off 2022! (Here’s Tequila to get you in the right mood!)
